Book Covers, CD Covers, and Magazine Illustrations
This is a basic outline of the charges for digitalized images found in the portfolios. All are estimates depending on time involved. All artwork must have © artists name and the year it was posted on the page. Artists' name must link to their webpage page at the Traditional Artists Guild site.
Prices are US$. Prices will vary according to the artwork you select since and the work involved in obtaining the details you need, but this cost will generally fall in the $400 to $800 range. Keep in mind that this price includes only the right to use the artwork for the cover and for advertising of the product that uses the artwork on its cover. This means if you want additional rights (such as T-shirt, mouse pad, poster, or other use of the image), there will be an additional fee.
From Online Artwork: If you see an image in a portfolio that appears suitable for your needs, these images can often be used directly, or slightly reworked to suit your needs if the artwork isn't not quite what you need.
Commissions of Digitized Artwork: Creation of new image generally runs from $500 to $800 but can run to $1,000 or more, depending on the time involved (generally the more figures or architectural structures you need in a picture, the higher the price tag). Again, keep in mind that this price includes only the right to use the artwork for the cover and for advertising of the product that uses the artwork on its cover.
Original Illustrations for Books and Magazines: These will fall into the same price range as cover work listed above, but will generally be at the lower end of the scale. Yes, images inside a publication traditionally priced lower than cover work but artists expect to be paid for the quality of their work, whether the art is on the cover of your publication or buried inside. However, if you purchase only the one-time use of an image already done (and assuming the rights are available), then the cost will be from $100 to $200 for that use (the price depending on the complexity of the picture).
